Revitalise your Leadership Approach for the New Year

Returning to work in the new year presents an ideal opportunity to revitalise your leadership approach and set ambitious goals for the coming year.

It’s important to revitalise your leadership approach so that you can start the new year by leading with authenticity and purpose.

Before the demands of navigating complex challenges, keeping your team motivated and driving your organisation’s goals take hold, take some time to work through these steps.

Reconnect with your "Why"

Take time to revisit your core values and the "why" behind your leadership journey. What drives you? What impact do you want to make?

Assess whether your current actions and priorities are truly aligned with your values and long-term vision.

Help your team to understand their "Why"

Share your "why" with your team.

Encourage the individuals within the team to understand their personal  “why.”

Bring the team together to understand the team’s “why”.  What drives the team?  What is the team’s purpose? What impact does the team want to make in the organisation?

Develop your self-awareness

Actively ask for feedback from trusted colleagues, mentors, and even direct reports. It may be difficult, but honest feedback can provide you with valuable insights into your strengths and areas for improvement.

Develop strategies to work through your blind spots and the areas that require improvement.  Consider engaging with a leadership or executive coach to support you in this process.

Regularly reflect on your experiences, challenges and success.  Try creating and scheduling a monthly reflection session.  This can help you to identify patterns, gain clarity and develop your emotional intelligence.
